Last year when Bridesmaids came out and everyone was all “OMG. Funny women are funny?”, the whole time I was thinking “First of all, duh. Secondly, that movie is excellent so stop pigeonholing. And lastly - Do you have any idea how much of The Office, Mindy Kaling is responsible for? That episode you loved, yeah, she probably wrote, produced or directed it, possibly some combination of those things.”

I could list tons of other talented and smart women who are funny. This isn’t new. It’s insulting to act like it appeared out of nowhere because some dude (Judd Apatow) gave his golden seal of approval to a few women and in some way guided them in the ways of “funny”.
