Stopped for coffee on the way into work this morning. This is the view from the patio of the coffeeshop. Even on overcast days, oh man, I love working right next to the ocean.

"Shove It" in Context: An RI Political Primer

Folks across the country that are picking up the Frank Caprio “shove it” story may want to know about the peculiar, upside-down political landscape here in RI. Failure to understand may result in embarrasment. In brief, Caprio is the Republican.

This is true.  I’ve seen his now infamous “Shove it” to Obama reblogged as a sound-byte many times today, by progressives or liberals who think what Caprio did was somehow warranted.  It wasn’t.  He’s a total jackass.

There are quite a few things I would love to tell Obama “Shove it” about right about now, but endorsing Lincoln Chafee isn’t one of them.  It was the right thing to do.  Caprio is a center/right-leaning democrat who really hasn’t given any of us Rhode Island lefties any reason to trust him.

Linc is pro-choice (in fact some of his votes when he was part of the Republican party appear nearly radically pro-choice in commparison to whimpy Democrats).  Linc is pro-gay, marriage and equal rights and protections.  Linc is anti-death penalty.  pro-gun control.  I could go on and on with where he stands on the issues.  The man isn’t perfect, but I am voting for him and would gladly vote him in over a lot of people who call themselves democrats in our country.

Bottom line - I don’t identify with a party because I don’t think we have a truly liberal party in this country.  Now Lincoln Chafee doesn’t identify with one either. I look at the issues and his record and I am really, really hoping he becomes the next Governor, cause man do we need him right now.

The “sides” bullshit is not working, clearly and I was relieved to see Obama endorse the person who really will probably be able to dig my state out of the fucking depressive hole it’s falling into instead of towing the party line.   Caprio is slimy and does nothing but talk about money.  I hear Lincoln Chafee talking about people.  I hear Caprio talking about the financial bottom line, always.

And now I hear him being a total jackass on the radio and becoming a meme.  Embarrassing and irrelevant.

Just wanted to add my two cents and try to clarify this situation for people who are not here and haven’t been following the race.
